Understanding Ontario income tax (2026)
Ontario residents pay four layers of deductions on employment income: federal income tax, Ontario provincial income tax, CPP contributions, and EI premiums. Here's a quick overview of Ontario's provincial brackets:
| Ontario Taxable Income | Ontario Provincial Rate |
|---|---|
| Up to $53,891 | 5.05% |
| $53,891 – $107,785 | 9.15% |
| $107,785 – $150,000 | 11.16% |
| $150,000 – $220,000 | 12.16% |
| Over $220,000 | 13.16% |
Ontario also applies a provincial surtax above specified provincial-tax thresholds and the Ontario Health Premium based on taxable income. For precise figures, use the Ontario take-home pay calculator or consult the CRA 2026 Ontario payroll deduction tables.

What the Ontario estimate includes
The 2026 estimate applies federal and Ontario brackets after deducting the additional CPP portions that CRA treats as deductions. It then applies the federal and Ontario basic non-refundable credits, base CPP and EI credits, the Canada Employment Amount, Ontario surtax, and the Ontario Health Premium. CPP and EI are shown separately because they are payroll contributions rather than income tax.
This is a basic-claim employment-income estimate. TD1 claims, RRSP deductions, benefits, commissions, bonuses, pension deductions, and other credits can change payroll withholding and final tax.

Actual amounts may vary based on personal deductions and credits. TurboTax Canada↗ applies all of these automatically when you file.
